INSPIRED BY THESE BELIEFS AND RUDOLPH STEINER, SOLDEN HILL HOUSE SEES ITS WIDER AIMS AND TASKS IN THE FULFILMENT OF:

Relationships and an extended family community
These are at the heart of what we do. We are not replacing families, but providing a home where each individual can be nurtured in a safe, secure environment. We value the relationships with the people we support and we help them to build healthy relationships with family, friends, neighbours and others. We try to support, listen to and befriend families and know their concerns regarding their son/daughter, brother or sister. We try to know any problems (or joys!) they may be experiencing.

Life and Work
We strive to make a real difference to people’s lives, while respecting that our task is to support people to live the life that makes sense to them. We encourage everyone to experience growth to the very best of their abilities, to develop self-esteem, confidence, social skills and independence. To do this we recognise the importance of person centred care and equality.
Everything we do gives us opportunities for personal growth and change. Challenges become opportunities. We encourage the people we support, and our staff, to engage in life-long learning.
Social contribution forms the basis of our work. We provide opportunities for meaningful work and activities so that everyone can experience the value and self-worth that comes from being able to give to other human beings and to the earth.
Everyone can help to create an environment which reflects care and devotion to people and things. This includes our land, our houses, our buildings and possessions. We aim to show a deep understanding of the importance of the social, natural and spiritual environment for people’s wellbeing.

Purpose in life
This is a basic need for everyone, regardless of their abilities. We treat each person with respect and dignity, and encourage everyone to find meaning, purpose and achievement in their lives. This includes supporting people in their religious and spiritual lives as appropriate to their individual beliefs. As a community we aim to live and demonstrate our values.
Celebrating together the festivals of the Christian year, and the ordered pattern of daily, weekly and seasonal events creates structure and predictability for our lives and gives us security and a sense of calmness. It helps us to understand our place in the world. Sharing our individual and joint achievements, as well as life’s joys and sorrows, creates the heart of our community.
